This year I wrote a book! Published by Bloomsbury, Potholes and Pavements - a bumpy ride on Britain’s National Cycle Network, is the culmination of a decade of work covering cycling, and sustainable transport. Part travelogue, part history of the National Cycle Network’s founding mothers and fathers, part love poem to cycling, it seeks to provide a ‘state of the nation’ story of cycling in Britain today. In it I meet some high-profile cyclists, and those working at the grassroots level, to try and grow cycling. It took about 18 months to write and research, and I’m immensely proud of it - and grateful to the excellent team at Bloomsbury who helped make it what it is. It’s been read by anyone from the vaguely curious to the Secretary of State for Transport, Louise Haigh.
As part of the promotion process I’ve been lucky enough to travel around the country speaking about it in person, as well as appearing on Jeremy Vine’s radio show, and numerous podcasts both in the world of cycling and outside of it. I’ve created a dedicated web page here on my website, with more information and details of book events I’ve been doing.
